Accounting Specialist

We are looking for an Accounting Specialist to support accounts receivable activities for a Contract position within the manufacturing industry in Richmond, Virginia. This role focuses on reviewing customer deductions, resolving discrepancies, and strengthening payment accuracy through detailed analysis and cross-functional collaboration. The ideal candidate brings strong accounting knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to investigate issues thoroughly while maintaining timely follow-through.Responsibilities:• Review customer deductions promptly, investigate supporting details, and determine the appropriate resolution based on available documentation.• Partner with sales contacts and internal stakeholders to collect records needed to verify deduction claims and support dispute resolution.• Evaluate research findings with strong analytical judgment to confirm whether deductions are valid and identify the proper accounting treatment.• Resolve outstanding deduction items by preparing vouchers or applying credit memos to the related transactions when appropriate.• Examine recurring deduction patterns, identify underlying causes, and recommend practical steps that help reduce future issues.• Use web-based and desktop applications to research transaction history, interpret account activity, and identify trends affecting receivables.• Perform general ledger reconciliations to ensure account balances are accurate and supported by relevant documentation.• Contribute to ad hoc assignments and special projects that support the accounting and receivables function.
